Ronnie
Mae Painter, self-taught, multi-talented artist, will hold her
first solo exhibition of her groundbreaking series of paintings
titled, Cadillacs and Crosses. Ms. Painter's sculptures will
also be included.
Ms. Painter, a controversial and outspoken published writer
and classically trained musician, uses raw, discarded materials
from the streets of New York to create edgy paintings and intriguing
sculptures embodying the observations drawn from her experience
as a woman of mixed descent. Her works are powerful, emotional
and highly personal reflecting the controversy and questions
surrounding gender, race, religion and cultural identity. Her
art speaks of her parents' complex and fertile relationship
and Ms. Painter's own struggle to define her identity in a society
lacking cultural definition.
